The Gun dilemma
I believe that as far as guns are concerned, we are focused on the wrong idea. We know that guns are dangerous, and many believe that guns kill people. I have an alternate view. The 2nd amendment states that “a well-regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed”. I believe that we should be regulating bullets. Regulating guns is secondary.
Sell and own guns, but owning and firing bullets should be sharply restricted. When you purchase a firearm, you may buy only one bullet, and this bullet will cost you as much as the gun.
Further, purchasing additional bullets will cost ten times as much as the price of the gun for each bullet. Each shot fired from the gun will elicit a fine of ten thousand dollars or so. You will be fined at least twenty thousand dollars if you strike someone or anything other than a target on a range.
Gun makers should not be allowed to sell automatic weapons to be distributed to gun shops in the entire US. If found violating this restriction, the gun maker and distributor will be fined twenty thousand dollars for each automatic weapon they sell to a customer, including gun shows. These actions will sharply reduce the use of guns, as is the case now.
