“Gum On Shoe” The Struggle of Unresponsive Recruiters: Reasons and Solutions Part 1

Getting hired is a stressful process, with job seekers often feeling that they've sent countless applications and heard nothing back. It can be frustrating when you apply for a job, put in the effort to tailor your application and then hear nothing back from recruiters. It's not just you. Even the most qualified candidates experience this at times, and it's often because recruiters are so unresponsive. It is frustrating, and it can dampen your job search motivation. The question is, why? In this article, we'll discuss some of the reasons why recruiters can be difficult to get in touch with, and what you can do to help alleviate the issue.

Lack of Time due to Overwhelming number of applicants:

It's not that recruiters are ignoring you; they probably just don't have the time and resources to respond to everyone. Recruiters sometimes find themselves inundated with a large number of applicants for a particular job posting. This sheer volume of candidates can be challenging to manage efficiently and respond to adequately. In today’s world, there is no cost to an applicant to send in their resume, or LinkedIn Profile. That has caused a high volume of unqualified candidates. If a recruiter goes through 50 resume submissions, I will say that about 90% are unqualified, most not even close. That workload can be overwhelming and unmotivating, which explains the delay. Internal recruiters are getting so bogged down with reactive actions, and it??happens in every company.

Hiring Managers are Busy:

Hiring managers play an essential role in the recruitment process. They serve as the gatekeepers who ultimately make a hiring decision and are usually responsible for reviewing resumes and conducting interviews. However, hiring managers are often juggling multiple responsibilities and may not have time to provide timely feedback to the recruiters or candidates. Which in turn slows the response time from recruiter to candidate. Even when a recruiter tries to alleviate this issue and assist them in prioritizing tasks to ensure that the hiring process runs smoothly. Things still come up

In conclusion, recruiters can be unresponsive to job seekers for many reasons, most of which are unknown to candidates, these reasons stem from a lack of resources, clear communication, or overburdened hiring managers. While recruiters strive to maintain timely communication with prospective candidates, sometimes, it is not feasible due to circumstances beyond their control. There are several ways to increase the chances of hearing back from recruiters, and the best approach to do this is by applying to jobs that you are qualified, qualified, qualified for and limit the amount of jobs you apply to in one specific company. You as the candidate are not doing yourself any favors by sending in your resume for jobs you are not a match for. Recruiters are not always unresponsive, so don't give up! Be patient, follow up politely, and practice professionalism throughout the recruitment process. By understanding the factors at play, candidates can better manage their expectations and improve their chances of receiving timely feedback from recruiters.
