The Guinness World Records? For a Driver's Ability to Use the Vehicle’s Capability (In a Slalom Course)

From the mid-'70s to the present, the combination of the Scotti School and Vehicle Dynamics Institute (VDI) has been driving students through a slalom course.
So, a while back, it was with great interest that we (ISDA) viewed a YouTube video entitled "A New Guinness World Records? for Fastest Vehicle Slalom.“
The video shows sixteen-year-old kart racer Chloe Chambers breaking the Guinness record for the fastest speed through a slalom.
Chloe drove a Porsche 718 Spyder through the slalom in 47.45 seconds. What's remarkable is that at 16 years old, Chambers doesn't have much experience in cars, but she has been racing karts for nine years.?
We always say the slalom is one of the best exercises to measure a driver's ability to use the vehicle's capability.
So, we thought we would look at the Guinness Slalom World Slalom Record through the lens of the old Scotti School and VDI and zero in on what this young lady accomplished.
The Guinness Slalom course is 51 cones separated by 50 feet/15.25 meters, which is substantially different from the slalom used in most training programs.
The vehicle was a Porsche 718 Spyder, which is capable of producing 1.04 G's.
So, what we have is a young lady who drove through 50 cones separated by 50 feet/15.25 meters in a vehicle capable of producing 1.04 G's.

This means she drove the 2500 feet/762 meters in 47.45 seconds; using simple math, she averaged 35.84 MPH/57.6 KPH.?
Driving a vehicle capable of 1.04 G's at an average speed of 35.84 MPH/57.6 KPH, working out the numbers, she applied an average of .8 G's on the vehicle and had to do that 50 times.?
Also, consider that at 35.84 MPH/57.6 KPH, she was moving 52.7 Feet Per Second/16 Meters Per Second through cones separated by 50 feet/15.25 meters or .95 seconds between cones.
She made the decision of when and where to move the steering wheel and at what speed in less than a second 50 times. She combined her speed and steering to go fast enough to break the slalom record and not exceed the vehicle's capability, and she did that 50 times.?
The young lady did well.

10 个月Very cool accomplishment by this young lady. We conduct a slalom exercise at the police training facility in the state of Oregon and it's always fun to watch trainees figure out that keeping their eyes up and the use of the accelerator to manage weight shift is the key to a fast slalom time. I have seen some impressive performances even while we were using non-ESC equipped police package vehicles.
