Guilt Free Morning Coffee For Hot Summers

Cold Brew Milk Coffee

Having a 30 year long habit of something means you do not often get many opportunities to shake things up a little but I recently discovered cold brew milk coffee, so from this summer my daily morning ritual has changed. Instead of firing up the gas or electric pot in my home first thing in the morning, I make my coffee the night before and enjoy it fresh and cold in the morning. Not only is this a better way to stay cool during the summer heat I can also reduce my carbon footprint by foregoing electricity and gas and rely only on my refrigerator (which runs all the time anyway and is quite energy efficient). Here is how I make my cold brew milk coffee, the easiest way. You will quickly figure out how to do this cheaper and more economically for yourself.

  1. The night before I want to drink my coffee, I open a carton of milk and add four to ten espresso spoons worth of coarsely ground dark roasted coffee. Then close the lid, shake it, and refrigerate over night.
  2. In the morning I take it out and pour carefully into a tall glass (I do not add ice as it dilutes the superb cold brew flavor), to avoid transferring the coffee grounds (use a tea strainer if you really do not want any grounds in your coffee glass). At this point you can also add syrup, plain or flavored if you like your coffee sweet.
  3. Cut the carton open, scoop out the spent coffee grounds into your compost and put the rinsed carton in the recycling bin.

Follow these three simple steps to add a rich tasting, caffeine full, no added electricity or gas, delicious cooling coffee, to your morning routine.
