A Planning Myth Debunked

We've all heard it: set your course and stick to it no matter what. But here's the twist – neuroscience shows that our brains are designed to adapt and evolve, not to be trapped in rigid plans. This revelation is your first step towards guilt-free planning. Instead of feeling chained to a plan, understand that it's the act of planning itself that primes your subconscious to automatically work towards your goals.

Daniel Kahneman, a renowned psychologist and Nobel laureate, emphasizes the subconscious mind's role in driving most of our actions. Through planning, you effectively program your subconscious to recognize and prioritize your goals.?So it's planning, and not 'a plan', that ultimately minimizes the need for willpower, as it leads to your brain automatically taking action toward your objectives. ?

Replace Guilt with Dopamine?? ??

The traditional emphasis on strict adherence to plans often leads to unnecessary guilt, especially when changes become necessary. Sticking to a plan is not even the smartest idea.? Here's why: As you work toward the completion of any project, it's common to discover new, more efficient ways to achieve it. Rather than viewing these discoveries as deviations or failures, recognize them as evidence of your brain's remarkable capacity for problem-solving and adaptation.

Here's the best part of being committed to goals and fluid about plans.?Neuroscience shows us that every step we take towards a meaningful goal is a trigger for dopamine production. This dopamine release acts as a natural motivator, propelling you further along your path.

Replace Guilt with Creativity??

Shifting your focus from rigidly sticking to a plan to engaging actively in the planning process itself allows for greater flexibility and creativity. Allowing new ideas to emerge as you progress reduces feelings of guilt and instead fosters a sense of freedom. Doing so taps into the natural mechanisms of your brain, supporting continuous adaptation and success. By valuing the planning process over the plan, you align with your brain's dynamic nature, making your journey towards your goals not only more effective but also more fulfilling.

Three Steps to Enlightened Business Planning?

  • Adaptability Over Rigidity: Align with Your Brain's Natural Flexibility: Allow your plans to evolve with new insights and opportunities.?When you allow your plans to evolve, you're working with your brain's inherent flexibility, not against it.?Regularly revisiting and adapting your plans can reduce the cognitive dissonance and stress associated with sticking to rigid, outdated strategies.
  • Progress Principle: Fueling Momentum through Small Wins: The progress principle emphasizes the impact of small victories and minor advancements toward a goal. These achievements, no matter how slight, can foster a sense of accomplishment. This sensation is often linked to dopamine release, a key factor in bolstering motivation and sustaining effort. By focusing on the act of planning as a series of small wins rather than rigidly adhering to a fixed plan, you tap into this powerful psychological mechanism. This approach not only enhances dopamine production but also keeps you engaged and committed to your goals until their successful completion.?
  • Mindful Flexibility in Planning: Embracing Change without Guilt: Mindful flexibility in planning encourages a conscious and present approach to setting and pursuing goals. It's about being mentally agile, open to new ideas, and willing to adjust plans as circumstances change. This mindfulness in planning reduces guilt associated with deviating from original plans, as it acknowledges that change is a natural and expected part of the journey towards success. By embracing this concept, you position yourself to respond to changes with ease, maintaining a guilt-free mindset that appreciates the evolving nature of business and personal growth.

Margarita's Midweek Mantra: ?

As we embrace the principles of adaptability, the progress principle, and mindful flexibility in our planning, let's anchor these concepts with a powerful, custom mantra. This week, our focus is on aligning our subconscious mind to support our journey towards our goals with ease and fluidity.

"I align my subconscious to take direct, smooth and automated action towards my goals."?

How to Use the Mantra

Morning Routine: Incorporate the mantra into your morning ritual. Repeat it silently or aloud as you prepare for your day.

Mindful Reminders: Set reminders on your phone or computer to pause and recite the mantra throughout your day. This helps to keep your subconscious alignment at the forefront of your mind.

Evening Reflection: End your day by reflecting on how your actions have aligned with this mantra. Acknowledge the smooth and direct actions you've taken towards your goals.

This mantra reinforces the idea that our subconscious mind is a powerful ally in our planning and goal achievement process. By repeating this mantra, we aim to align to a stress-free path to our objectives by leveraging our brain's innate efficiency.?

Gotta love the dopamine drip! Planning is indeed far more valuable than the plan. Planning programs the subconscious to seek and recognize the small wins that get the drip going, while adherence to "the plan" will raise your cortisol. Thanks for clearing a path to better planning that fosters agility and multiplies momemtum with dopamine!
