He has won Golden Globes, BAFTA’s, Cannes, and now his first Academy Awards.
Sunday night at the 90th annual Academy Awards was a special night indeed. Finally, visionary filmmaker Guillermo del Toro took home two well-deserved Oscars. Now, the three amigos, Alfonso Cuarón, Alejandro I?aritu, and Guillermo del Toro have made Oscar history.
The proud Mexican filmmaker gave an emotional acceptance speech. He mentioned “I am an immigrant…in the last 25 years, I’ve been living in a country all of our own. Part of it is here, part of it is in Europe, part of it is everywhere. Because I think the greatest thing that art does, and that our industry does, the lines in the sand when the world tells us to make them deeper.”
Today, when politicians like Trump, are continually twitting harmful and destructive things against Mexicans, is good to know, that at least in the film world, critics do not believe in borders or walls.
Personally, as Mexican and as a horror film fan, I have to applaud him. And I can’t wait to see the remake of “Fantastic Voyage,” which he will direct and work with his “Shape of Water” crew in Montreal.
?En hora buena !
