Guiding Principles for Making Decisions
"Who, then, are those who fear the Lord? He will instruct them in the ways they should choose." - Psalm 25:12 NIV
When faced with difficult decisions, Psalm 25 offers invaluable wisdom. The fear of the Lord serves as a foundation for discernment, providing clarity and direction amidst choices.
We must learn to trust in God's guidance. Just as David expresses his trust in the Lord (verses 1-2), we too should rely on God's wisdom rather than solely on our understanding of the circumstances or choices before us.
Seeking the Lord's instruction: the Psalmist implores God to teach him His ways and guide him in truth (verses 4-5). When faced with difficult decisions, especially, we must seek God's guidance through prayer.
Acknowledging the Lord's mercy and love: throughout the psalm, David acknowledges God's love and mercy (verses 6-7). When facing decisions impacting not only our lives but also those close to us, we must remember God's compassion and trust that He desires our best, guiding us accordingly.
Fear of the Lord: this is the recurring theme in Psalm 25, and it emphasizes the importance of making decisions in line with God's will (verse 12). This fear entails reverence and obedience to God. In every decision, we must prioritize honoring God above all else.
Integrity and uprightness: David prays for protection and acknowledges his hope in God (verse 21). As you face difficult decisions, remember to uphold integrity and strive to reflect God's character in your approach.
Applying the principles in this scripture will help you approach decision-making with greater wisdom and discernment.
