Guiding Principles: Gratitude on Teachers' Day

As we celebrate Teachers' Day, I find myself reflecting on a few of the invaluable lessons I've learned from the mentors who have guided me throughout my career. These teachings have not only shaped my professional journey but have also become guiding principles that I strive to embody every day. Today, I want to express my heartfelt gratitude to those who have been my mentors, guiding lights, and role models.

1. Embrace every task, big or small

One of the most impactful lessons I've learned is to never say no to any task, whether it's large or seemingly insignificant. Every task is an opportunity to learn, grow, and build experience. In the fast-paced world of Human Resources, no task is ever too small. Every assignment, from organizing a meeting to leading a strategic initiative, contributes to our overall development and exposes us to new challenges and opportunities. I am grateful to the leaders who taught me this valuable lesson. Their encouragement to take on diverse tasks has broadened my skill set and given me the confidence to tackle any challenge that comes my way.

2. Be responsible and accountable

Another crucial teaching that has resonated with me is the importance of responsibility and accountability. In any role, being responsible for your actions and decisions is paramount. It's about owning your work, standing by your commitments, and being someone others can rely on.

My mentors have consistently emphasized the importance of accountability, not just in delivering results but in building trust and credibility with colleagues, clients, and stakeholders. This teaching has been instrumental in my career, helping me navigate complex situations with integrity and confidence.

3. Let your work speak for itself

I’ve learned that the best way to earn respect and recognition is to let your work speak volumes. Rather than seeking praise or validation, focusing on delivering high-quality results naturally leads to acknowledgment and success. This teaching has been a cornerstone of my professional philosophy. By consistently striving for excellence and allowing my work to reflect my dedication, I have been able to build a reputation that speaks for itself. I am thankful to my mentors for instilling in me the value of hard work, perseverance, and humility.

4. Be kind

Treating others with respect, empathy, and compassion is crucial in any professional environment. Kindness fosters positive relationships and creates a supportive atmosphere where everyone can thrive. This lesson is not only invaluable in professional space but also vital in our personal and social lives. This world could certainly benefit from a dash of kindness.

5. Celebrate successes at every level

Another important teaching is to celebrate successes regardless of the hierarchy and professional relationships. There's room for everyone to be successful in this world, and recognizing achievements, no matter how big or small, helps build a culture of appreciation and motivation. It encourages continuous growth and fosters a positive work environment where everyone feels valued and inspired to excel.

I extend my deepest gratitude to my mentors and leaders for being the guiding forces behind my growth. As I continue on my journey, I remain committed to these teachings, and I hope to pass them on to others, just as they were passed on to me.

Letting your work speak for you is the best advice that I agree everyone should be driven by. And your advice to be kind is a wholesome advice. As one of the people I follow Gaur Gopal Das says we call ourselves humankind, but we focus more on the word human than the word kind. If we reversed the focus, we would all be better off.
