The guiding light...

“In life you will always have a choice, between choosing the right path and the easy path.”

"You must always choose the right path”, Amma said.

“But how will l know what the right path is, Amma?”, I asked.

“Your values will be your guide”, Amma said smilingly.

“Even when am not there, the values will show you the way, just like a lighthouse guides the mariner who is on the stormy seas”.

At the crossroads of life, in moral dilemmas and the conflicts of mind, Amma has been the guiding light, my strength to tread the right path. My lighthouse in the stormy seas of life.

Lighthouses have always held a mysterious appeal to me. In their solitude, perched on the rocky shore, showing the way to the sailers lost in the sea with the light beams shining through the majestic waves.

It has been a childhood dream to visit a lighthouse.

And I finally made the trip last year.

I climbed the spiral staircase up the lighthouse in childlike excitement.

The white clouds sailed through the backdrop of the infinite blue sky. The coconut trees danced to the song of the breeze. And then in a while, the sun slowly descended over the horizon, painting the sky in hues of orange.

I closed my eyes and remembered Amma.

And looked at Adi as he clutched my hand.

I hope I can be his lighthouse as he sails the journey of his life.
