Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ,
Sharing the gospel with those who are skeptical—or outright opposed to Christianity—can feel like stepping into a storm. Whether it’s a coworker, a family member, or a friend who dismisses faith as irrational, judgmental, or oppressive, the challenge is real. We are called to “go and make disciples of all nations” (Matthew 28:19), yet many of us hesitate. How do we engage without pushing people further away?
Jesus Himself encountered hostility. The Pharisees sought to trap Him with questions, some people abandoned Him when His teachings became difficult, and others called Him a liar. Yet He responded with wisdom, grace, and truth. “Be wise as serpents and innocent as doves” (Matthew 10:16) is not just advice—it’s a strategy.
When we share our faith, we must meet people where they are. That means listening before speaking (James 1:19), asking thoughtful questions, and responding with gentleness (1 Peter 3:15). Many resist Christianity not because they have examined it and found it lacking, but because they’ve had negative experiences with Christians, have been hurt by the church, or struggle with doubts they’ve never voiced.
It’s easy to feel the need to “win” the conversation, but evangelism is not about proving a point—it’s about pointing to a person: Jesus Christ. The Holy Spirit does the convicting (John 16:8); we are simply called to share the truth in love.
Practical Takeaway: What Does This Mean for Us?
Reflection and Challenge - Who in your life has been resistant to faith? Have you engaged with them in a way that invites conversation, or have past discussions created walls? Consider how you might share Christ’s love in a way that is gentle, patient, and wise. I’d love to hear your thoughts—comment below or send me a private message if you’d like to discuss this further.
With Hope and Faith,
