Guided by The Gospel - Issue 13 (Eternal Life)

Greetings, my friends!

With every tick of the clock, with every week, month, and year that passes in a blur, we’re reminded of the temporal nature of our earthly existence. Yet, there's a deep, inborn curiosity within each of us about what's beyond this life. In this issue, we’ll explore the profound concept and promise of eternal life.

Let’s be honest - we all struggle to grasp the fullness of 'eternity'. Eternal life is a timeless existence that starts at the endpoint of earthly life. It's not just an extension of time; it's a different kind of existence entirely.

Although eternal life is beyond our full comprehension, the Bible gives us several glimpses:

• John 3:16 (NIV): "For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life."
• Romans 6:23 (NIV): "For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord."
• John 11:25-26 (NIV): "Jesus said to her, 'I am the resurrection and the life. The one who believes in me will live, even though they die; and whoever lives by believing in me will never die. Do you believe this?'"
• 1 John 5:11 (NIV): "And this is the testimony: God has given us eternal life, and this life is in his Son."
• 2 Corinthians 4:18 (NIV): "So we fix our eyes not on what is seen, but on what is unseen, since what is seen is temporary, but what is unseen is eternal."

As we’ve discussed previously, God grants us the free will to choose our paths. And yes, our Earthly choices determine our eternal destinies. But, it's a partnership - His eternal promises and our acceptance and faith in those promises.

Imagine a realm beyond our current understanding, free from suffering, pain, and the constraints of time. This is God's gift to those who believe: an eternity with Him, immersed in love, joy, and peace.? Doesn’t that sound wonderful?

Take a few minutes to reflect on eternal life:

1. What emotions and thoughts arise when you think of eternal life?

2. How does the promise of eternal life influence your daily choices?

3. Have you ever had a conversation about eternal life with someone? How did it go?

4. How does your understanding of eternal life impact your perspective on earthly challenges?

5. Do you find comfort in the concept of eternal life? Why or why not?

Dear friends, our lives here on Earth are but a whisper in the wind compared to the eternal song of the hereafter. Embrace the promises of the Scripture, knowing there's so much more awaiting us beyond this life.
