VMware Raw Device Mapping (RDM) allows for the use of raw SCSI devices in virtual machines in VMware vSphere, providing features that are not available with virtual disk files (VMDKs). While there are advantages to using RDM, such as multi-server clustering and rapid server conversion, there are also limitations, including the inability to use snapshots or clones with Physical Mode RDM and limited support for certain storage arrays and volumes.
