A guide to using absorbents

Are you confident you are using the correct absorbent materials on site??

We understand the concept of "if its not broken, don't fix it" however using the correct absorbent will ensure you are protecting people and the environment from potential hazards, as well as increasing efficiency.

We've created a brief guide on using absorbents within your business, whether this is for leaks and drips, or an emergency spill situation. We've got you covered when it comes to using absorbent material.

?

Why are absorbents different colours?

Absorbents are made in different colours to ensure consistency across all industries and to highlight hazards. Understanding absorbents and why they are coloured helps in an emergency situation.

●?Grey absorbents are for?general purpose or maintenance spills.?They offer superb absorbent qualities for general, non aggressive liquids, so are a versatile option for many businesses.

●?Yellow absorbents are for?hazardous liquids. Including industrial liquids and aggressive chemicals such as corrosive or caustic liquids. Brightly coloured yellow for high visibility of hazards, these absorbents are effective on a range of hazardous liquids.

●?White absorbents are designed to?absorb oils and fuels. Made from hydrophobic fibres, these absorbents will absorb viscous oils and fuels, whilst also repelling water. Ideal for use in areas where oils may mix with water, or where oil leaks may occur.

These recognised industry colours apply to the different types of absorbent including mats, socks, booms, mats, rolls and pillows.?

?

What type of absorbent do I need??

There are a range of absorbent types, all designed for different situations. It is important you consider the type of spill you are likely to experience so that you stock the correct absorbent type and colour.

?Depending on the spill quantity and the fluid spilt, you have a range of absorbent options:

●????Mats/pads - to clean up small liquid spills or catch small drips and leaks.

●??Socks/booms - to contain liquid and prevent a spill from spreading.

●?????Pillows/cushions - to absorb larger amounts of liquids or catch persistent leaks.

●?????Perforated Rolls - Similar to absorbent mats but more versatile to resize.

●???Absorbent Granules - a traditional absorbent useful for more viscous fluids

●???Drum Toppers - to catch spills when dispensing from or filling drums.

Still unsure if you have got the correct absorbents for your needs? Our team are on hand to offer advice, feel free to?reach out?and we will be happy to help you.
