Guide: The G6 Platform Compliance
On e.g. a construction site, operators work side by side manoeuvring several advanced machines within a small area.

Guide: The G6 Platform Compliance

Directives and Standards - what is the difference?

You can think of an EU Directive as an umbrella where the directive describes different requirements that may be covered by harmonized standards. For example, multiple standards can be harmonized under an EU Directive, and by complying with the harmonized standards, you prove that you comply with parts or the whole directive.

EU Directives & Regulations

Scanreco products are approved for use in a multitude of application types and industries, and endure harsh conditions

To simplify the process of showing compliance to the directives many of them have harmonized standards that can be utilized as presumption of conformity to the directive. For some directives and products, the responsibility of compliance is fully on the manufacturer and for some products, a Notified Body (NB) has to perform the conformity assessment and issue a type approval.

Scanreco has type approvals for both the Radio Equipment Directive (RED) and the Machinery Directive (MD). Each harmonized standard may hold several sub-standards that also need to be met to be able to sell the products for that specific use (for example on specific types of machines, regulations regarding bandwidth, work area regulations, etc.).

Scanreco has type approvals for the Radio Equipment Directive (RED) and the Machinery Directive (MD)

Radio Equipment Directive (RED) | RED 2014/53/EU

All equipment containing any radio transmitter fall under the RED Directive. This is not limited to the Scanreco remote control only, the entire machine becomes a radio according to the interpretation of the directive. The RED contains mandatory sub-standards for safe and efficient use of radio equipment:

Low Voltage Directive (LVD): This directive covers electrical safety aspects so that the products are safe to use and do not cause fires or electrical shocks etc.

Electromagnetic Compatibility (EMC): Covers both emissions and immunity restriction levels. Emissions, so that the Scanreco product does not interfere with other electronics like a Wi-Fi router or radiate harmful levels to humans. Immunity, so that other electronics and transmitters do not interfere with Scanreco products and cause any unexpected behaviour.

Machinery Directive | MD 2006/42/EC

The Machinery Directive mainly contains mandatory requirements on functional safety for all types of machines where control systems of machines are included. It puts a common safety level for each type of machine that is placed on the EU market (countries that fall under the CB Scheme also accept the EU legislation).

Functional and Electrical safety

At Scanreco, we take safety and functionality even further and have tested the G6 Platform against several additional standards related to functional safety, two of them are the IEC 61508 SIL 3, and the ISO 13849 PL e (that falls under the Machinery Directive).
