A guide to the creative process

Creative designers are special people, I am so certain of that. Fashion designers have the courage to transform an idea into a reality and not just that; they transform so many ideas to reality in good time in order to remain relevant. This is no little feat and it takes extreme bravery to tread such career paths.

A lot of work goes into the creative process and I know this designers don't get half as much accolades as they deserve and their masterpieces are usually short lived. It will take a whole lot of re-orientation to fix this but there are simple adjustments that can be implemented to the creative process which will cause a whole lot of difference...

Most design processes in the world today are focusing more on the users, not just because it's the easiest way out but because we have discovered it is a more effective approach. Tech companies invest a lot of resources today on prototype testing and feedback implementation, not because they aren't professionals or because they can't observe the trends and tell what people need. Investors who believe in a great product today also request for early traction before investing not because they don't trust their instincts gotten from years of investment deals under their belts but everyone of these people seem to know something that the textile industry is yet to pick up on!

Gathering a lot of education, getting the right inspo or having years of experience never guarantees that you can continuously make things that people need enough to use for a long period of time. Reputable and concerned institutions today have growing fears over fast fashion, consumers never seem to be satisfied with any cloth, big brands are producing round the clock and way below optimum cost just to satisfy their customers. But can there be a smarter way?

I get tired of my clothes long before they get worn out. I know a lot of people like myself who want more than half the store when they walk in but not much really really fits. The brands don't quite get me and so I'll make up for it by switching up on what they have which isn't bad enough for me to not wear it for a couple of months but it isn't good enough for me to keep it for a very long period of time.

If brands near me could see what I really want, I would have no problem wearing them boldly till they wear out! People in a particular location don't have extremely different needs as we would immediately assume, most of their needs are still similar enough for it to be mass produced so individuality won't be an easy way out. Just like companies have found a way to get customers in the designing loop, clothing brands should also strive to have customers continuously in their creative process. It will make a huge difference in cutting production costs but more importantly in cutting environmental cost and having satisfied customers.

So true! I haven't taken time to observe this.. Well written too! Are there other researches that back up the notion that people in "particular locations don't have extremely different needs"? Secondly, just curious, would you say the clothing industry has just never given thought to designing clothes that last or is it in fact part of their identity (something to be proud of)?
