Anyone planning to develop their leadership skills needs to intentionally assess their work ethic. Work ethic is an important ingredient for success in whatever life journey you're on. Whether you're striving for personal growth, aiming to excel in your career, or pursuing your passions, a strong work ethic is essential. I have worked with and come across people who lack professionalism and work ethic and it can ruin your reputation, or hinder your progress.
Personal story: When I moved from a small unstructured organisation to another small but structured organisation, I had to level up and be more professional because I got to work with clients directly. Then I moved to a larger team with colleagues from different countries, and it was a remote role. I started to get some feedback on my work ethic, and no matter how shocking that was, I assumed everyone would understand how bad the Nigerian internet is, and the general state of things like electricity. However, I knew I had to get rid of the excuses after I got placed on a performance improvement plan. I was immediately confronted to self-assess my work ethic, and I now strive daily to show up professionally as much as I can. But how do you assess your work ethic, and more importantly, how can you improve it? Let's break it down into simple steps.
What is Work Ethic?
Work ethic refers to your attitude towards work, your dedication, and your ability to consistently put in effort to achieve your goals. It's about showing up, giving your best, and persevering even when faced with challenges. A good work ethic encompasses qualities like reliability, discipline, integrity, and a willingness to go the extra mile.
