Apply for Canada PR from US

The Canadian government offers a plethora of pathways to immigrants seeking to apply for Canada PR from US. One such popular system for selecting candidates across economic programs is called the Express Entry system.

Candidates will need to become eligible under one of the federal economic immigration programs managed by the Express Entry system:

  • Federal Skilled Worker Program (FSWP)
  • Federal Skilled Trades Program (FSTP)
  • Canadian Experience Class (CEC)

Canadian provinces also have a say in who gets to move to Canada. While some Provincial Nominee Programs are linked to the Express Entry - many of the PNP streams exist entirely outside the Express Entry system. Each program has its own criteria, and the Express Entry system can help you discover which ones you may be eligible for.

Candidates intending to apply for Canada PR from US can begin by submitting an Express Entry profile to Immigration, Refugees, and Citizenship Canada (IRCC), the federal department responsible for processing applications. Candidates will be evaluated in order to determine whether or not they are eligible for at least one of these programs.

They will be asked to supply information about their international work experience, Canadian employment experience (if any), education level, and language competence in English or French (a test is required, and you need to score to figure out?how many bands required for Canada?and get that qualifying score - even if you went to Harvard!), and other variables. Following that, they'll be given a score out of 1,200 points as part of the Comprehensive Ranking System.

If a Canadian province agrees to nominate you through the Provincial Nominee Program, you can get up to 600 points straight away.

IRCC selects the top-ranking candidates twice a month and invites them to finish their applications. In other words, everybody who achieves a score higher than the minimum cut-off will be invited to apply.
