Guest Lecture Led by Founder of the Environmentalist Foundation of India

The Department of Journalism and Mass Communication at SRM Faculty of Science and Humanities, Kattankulathur, hosted an enlightening guest lecture by Mr. Arun Krishnamurthy E.F.I , the Founder of the Environmentalist Foundation of India. The event focused on critical issues concerning environmental conservation.

Arun Krishnamurthy began by addressing the alarming rate of natural degradation and the widening gap between discussions on environmental protection and tangible action. He cited the tragic case of 47 turtles found dead with balloons in their stomachs, a direct consequence of pollution, underscoring the far-reaching impact of human neglect. He also brought attention to the critically endangered Great Indian Bustard, of which only 100 remain, urging immediate conservation efforts.

Krishnamurthy was particularly critical of the scientific community, pointing out that these urgent environmental concerns often remain under-researched. He urged scientists to step up and focus on studying issues that could directly impact conservation efforts instead of neglecting the importance of such topics.

In his closing remarks, Krishnamurthy spoke passionately about the need for a shift in individual and collective behavior. He expressed his desire to inspire a lasting behavioral change — one that goes beyond merely talking about conservation and translates into proactive efforts to protect nature. He emphasized that real change begins with small, consistent actions at the grassroots level, whether it’s reducing plastic use, engaging in community cleanups, or advocating for policy changes.

His lecture left the audience with a sense of urgency and responsibility. The message was clear: environmental conservation is not a choice but a necessity, and it requires commitment from all sectors of society. Krishnamurthy’s call for action resonated deeply, encouraging students and faculty alike to reflect on their role in safeguarding the environment and how they could contribute to a more sustainable future.

The session concluded with a round of applause, as students engaged with Krishnamurthy during a brief Q&A session, seeking further insights into how they could be part of the solution.
