Guess who might, possibly, maybe be presenting an award at the Grammys!?

Guess who might-possibly-maybe presenting an award at the Grammys…

Sometimes, life has a funny way of humbling you and lifting you at the same time. Picture this: I was on the phone with my social media manager, Don, who just got promoted (congrats, Don!), and we were laughing and crunching numbers for upcoming Poetry vs. Hip-Hop and Poetry After Dark shows. I was also mid-“Grammy” boho braid session with Bria in Clayton, NC—because y’all know I stay on my hustle—and it was snowing. My phone was on speaker, and I was joking with Don about being a “regular” artist out here grinding, not expecting anything monumental.

Then Leslie called.

Let me tell you something about Leslie—she doesn’t call. Leslie is an emailer. She’s busy, important, and organized, so for her to pick up the phone, I knew it had to be big. I figured it had to do with some consulting work we’ve been doing for the Grammys, but no. I checked my email and immediately screamed so loudly Bria nearly dropped her comb.

Here’s what the email said: ?

"It is our pleasure to invite QUEEN SHEBA to participate in the GRAMMY Awards Premiere Ceremony, immediately preceding the CBS telecast. It is where 80+ of our 94 awards are presented. It is also viewed by a live audience of 3,500+, streamed live on the web, and available as video-on-demand for 90 days following. The event has been growing rapidly in prestige and excitement; many claim that they actually prefer it to the GRAMMY telecast, as it highlights some of the great genres and artists not often seen on air. People are calling it 'the cool kids GRAMMYs.’

We would be honored if QUEEN SHEBA would consider presenting a few awards for the program!"

Y’all. I am floored. Honored. Overwhelmed with gratitude. This moment isn’t just about me; it’s about everything we’ve built together over these years. It’s about the work, the poetry, the community, and the unshakeable belief that Spoken Word has a place on every stage—even this one.

Now let me let you in on a little lesson in growth. That email? It was forwarded to me by someone who had wronged me, in the past—someone who ghosted me (and we all know ghosting is for children). I let God handle it, because it wasn’t my place to chase that energy. And now? Look at what the universe delivered. The lesson: the universe has already decided what’s for you. The only thing you have to do is trust, let go, and keep doing the work.

So, as I step into this incredible opportunity, know that it’s not just for me—it’s for all of us. Every poet, every artist, everyone who ever doubted if they belonged. We belong. And we’re taking our place on the cool kids’ stage. ?

Make sure to watch the Premier ceremony & telecast on Grammy.com Join my IG CHANNEL - that is the only place I will be showing my day-to-day Grammy Week activities.

With gratitude, ?
