I recently had a discussion on my expertise, skills, potential career paths, roles and related learnings.
During the discussion, I received insights on - key roles aligned to my expertise and skills, internal open job opportunities mapped to potential career paths and detailed learning recommendations/paths that I could leverage. I could also review “My Dashboard” - a summary of my skills, expertise level, performance and career planning tools and learning resources to help me meet my goals.
Guess who was I talking to ?
Your guess could be, that it was - my manager or my mentor or my learning consultant.
Well, it was none of them…
It was an internal AI (Artificial Intelligence) powered career advisor – available 24/7 to employees, who one can discuss with, in complete confidence, regarding their skills, careers, potential roles, internal opportunities available and get personalized learning recommendations and insights on potential career paths/roles.
Did this interaction replace conversation that I will have with my boss, learning consultant or mentor about these key aspects.
No-it did not.
But it did - give me a wider perspective with detailed information, enabling me with deeper insights, to have better discussions with any of them, on critical aspects of my career.
That’s a one live example of how AI (Artificial Intelligence) works – adding value by supporting and augmenting an employee experience.
Predictions indicate, that in next 2 years, 70% of organizations will have AI integrated at workplace, to enhance employee efficiency and experience.
A word of caution, though as more and more organizations tap these AI based technologies.
Care needs to be exercised that AI technologies are well monitored, to prevent interactions which could be uncomfortable for employees, as it would vitiate the work environment (as residue of any such interaction could impact other live interactions at work place).
AI tools require human oversight – to watch, train and improve algorithm, thus humans and their innate skills are more than ever critical now, as there is need to devise, implement and validate.
AI technologies today, have a bigger value to add, more than just to automate – “Augmentation” is the key.
