The guardian epilogue

As we hiked a trail treacherous and rocky
to ruins of a guard that once was mighty.
Excited to scale ventured all in bonhomie,
tourist or pilgrim wondered I of us gypsy.
Through traitorous path as dangers befall,
unto an arch where a gate once stood tall.
Ended the hazards as we entered the wall;
perched there a temple to worship or stall.
Narrated of conquests gory, a text in gold -
"Hundreds of years to first breach its hold"
Once though taken, often the rule did fold.
Pondered us why as the sacred did unfold -
"Harbor no greed had once said the Divine
Know though the other's was His grapevine.
Covet you should not another's will and shrine
Preserve you cannot as the values decline."
