SAFAL - Structured Assessment for Analysing Learning?

Based on the recommendations of the National Education Policy (2020), CBSE has developed a new assessment methodology called Structured Assessment for Analysing Learning (SAFAL). Some key features of SAFAL are -

  • Annual school assessment for all students in Grades 3, 5, and 8
  • Focus on testing core concepts and application of knowledge
  • Results to be used to provide development feedback to schools

The learning outcomes are mapped to a comprehensive set of indicators. These correspond to four levels - below basic, basic, proficient and advanced. You can read more about SAFAL here.

Educational technology is seen as a promising solution to help improve learning outcomes. In?this paper, a computer-based adaptive learning platform (Mindspark) is evaluated. It was developed?for secondary school students in New Delhi. The paper discusses the impact of customised learning technology on student achievement.
