G&TT (girls and tech of tomorrow!)

G&TT (girls and tech of tomorrow!)

… on a mission to make tech SEXY for the future generation!

?

The UK tech ecosystem is currently valued at over £800 billion*, showing no signs of slowing down! Across the UK, the average salary in tech is £62,000* with entry level roles paying up to £35,000. Currently men dominate the industry, making up over 75% of the UK tech workforce. We want to change this.

G&T (girls and tech!) to the rescueeee!

Ok, so it’s no secret that with the help of G&T (girls and tech!), approximately 85% of our placements at G. Digital are female. We pride ourself on working with the best talent on the market and will only ever send our partners the best candidate for the job. Hiring should always be based on MERIT and not gender!

We’ve welcomed over 2000 ladies to our G&T events, advised businesses across the UK on how to hire (and retain) women and helped tech scaleups build robust D&I strategies for vital high growth periods.

Look how much fun we have!! #girlgang

In our humble (but very valid) opinion, the lack of females in tech is a grassroots issue. There isn’t a magical island miles away where there are thousands of female techies that hiring managers don't have access to.

The pressure managers feel to hit the 50/50 ratio in our opinion is silly. Striving for 50/50 is great, but lets be realistic, men make up around 75% of the tech workforce... do the maths. Instead of desperately trying to hire women to hit a HR quota (ew!) why not put this energy into investing in the big picture. Slow and steady wins the race.

Focus on the wonderful ladies you already have in the team, are they happy? Are they supported? Have you offered them promotions? Do you have internal WIT events? Do you hire juniors/ grads?

Attracting women is the easy part. Once you can nurture, promote and RETAIN them, THEN you’re onto a winner.

G&TT will consist of a number of initiatives, including the first (of hopefully) many career days. The day is designed for girls aged between 18-25 who are unsure of their future career plans (lets face it, if you’re in this age bracket and know what career you want to do, you’re in the minority!)

?

Whether you're actively pursuing a role in tech or literally have no idea about what tech entails, G&TT welcomes everyone from all backgrounds and experiences. Don’t have a degree? No problem! We want a wonderful, diverse cohort of girls from different backgrounds who can contribute from different perspectives. All we ask is that you have an open mind and a fabulous, positive attitude.

The format of the day will consist:

  • Coffee, networking & intros (this is a small event with around 25 girls, so hopefully not too intimidating!)
  • ?Team building games
  • Career workshops, including: How to build an effective LinkedIn profile, CV writing, how to ace an interview (virtual/ f2f) and building a personal brand.
  • Lunch
  • Senior volunteers from our G&T (girls and tech!) community delivering short, engaging and relatable presentations on the varying roles in tech, including: Cyber, Engineering, Data, Testing, Product and Business Analysis
  • G&T’s and introductions to local businesses who offer graduate schemes/ apprenticeships and tech academies

All hosted by the friendly team at G. Digital | G&T (girls and tech!). We’re on a mission to educate girls about the varying roles in tech- it’s not just developers coding in a dark room, tech can be sexy and with the help of our G&T partners, we’re here to show you how ??

Applications open on Monday 9th October. To register your interest in either attending the day, volunteering in some capacity or sponsorship options please email me on:

What a fab idea! You should do this in schools (if you haven't already) in both primary & secondary! And inform students that working in IT as a girl/woman is cool from a young age ????
