GTM Game Plans

Introduction - THANK YOU

Hello!

Please join me on a new journey. Those that know me - know I am not shy nor afraid to ensure I have an opinion shared :). However, I must admit this is a bit of a vulnerable moment but just like the good old Nike slogan…I will “Just Do It"

I have been extremely fortunate to work with some of the most amazing people in the industry over the last 25 years of my career. The last 12 have been truly remarkable as I have the distinct pleasure of working with over 400 people in my organizations, collectively driving over $2B in ARR and because we are ONLY outcome focused that means over $20 Billion in value for the best customers in the world.

I am deeply thankful for every opportunity - good and bad. Experiences are just that - ones you learn from and grow as none can be perfect as none of us are.

Why am I here?

In COVID I started to do some random videos sharing thoughts and got some nice compliments but I don’t take those well for whatever reason. I then got enough of them to actually know it was genuine including people not understanding how I wasn’t using a teleprompter. I wasn’t smart enough to know how to do that!

It wasn’t that believable to folks but to me it was just pure joy and a real “love of the game”. It just is. I gain incredible satisfaction from learning and have an amazing network of all of you that enable that and support that.

I have recently been doing a lot of advising work, a lot of discussions, a lot of learning all of the new “modern” ways to build, grow and sustain GTM systems. I have gone bottoms up and coded Clay tables myself, ran n8n integrations, built some automation tools for myself, revamped how I would interview talent and so much more.

I am a member of Growth Marketing WhatsApp groups that I somehow found an exclusive invite into. I have realized the greatest success I have had in my career has been my failures. Yes - I said it. I don’t mean this like I don’t feel success - I do.

It is just you are able to look back at things you could change, do differently or frankly things you didn’t even know then (or maybe should have). If you combine that with real success plus a keen eye towards the future you have one of those special recipes. Kind of like that Honey Deuce drink at the U.S Open.

Will that turn into $10 Mil in sales for me? I doubt it :)

This game is insanely hard. I play to win. I don’t play for participation trophies. You can’t win every game doing this but you can grow rich. I don’t mean rich in economic terms (at all) but truly rich in experience. Truly rich in relationships. Truly rich in your network. Being rich is just purely loving what you do. I am there.

I will continue to post about the modern GTM organization on LI, I will continue to post poor quality videos (but try harder for them to look better) and I am also going to start a weekly newsletter.

Yeah - sorry just getting to the point here. I have had a dozen people tell me to do this in the past 2 months and I was scared as I mentioned. Fearful for all the obvious unknowns.

What will come next here?

I see a lot. I read a lot. I am trying a lot on my own with that amazing set of resources and companies I am working with. I talk to a lot of people.

I realized this week in a coffee meeting with a VC of a large fund that what I am learning is not yet widely distributed. I want to try and share. I hope you learn. I hope you share what you are seeing. I hope you reach out. We can all learn and grow together.

The modern GTM team, structure, tooling and process is changing fast. It is not some random AI tool that is nothing more than an expensive feature disguised as a solution.

There is no Ozempic for this. However, together we can do the right things to collaborate and advance. Thanks for your support.

Let’s love this game together. It is beautiful and the opportunity ahead is very exciting.

P.S. - There will never be any AI writing this

Organizing newsletter content can be a great way to clarify your thoughts. What key topics are you focusing on this time around?

This is extremely insightful newsletter I can truly relate, thanks for sharing, failure is part of life journey, it definitely expands you beyond your elastic limit, and having the opportunity to be able to share your experience is rewarding and everyone can learn from your journey. Taking the leap of faith to greatness sometimes can be fearful, like you said “just do it”
