GSP vs Bisping UFC 217. Analyze This

On Saturday, one of the top stars in mixed martial arts history was back after a 4 year layoff and he’s picked up right where he left off. Former UFC? welterweight champion Georges St-Pierre made his return to the Octagon and successfully became the new middleweight champion by beating Michael Bisping.

So let's analyse this fight for a second shall we?

Ok I`ll admit it, i`m a sucker for reading up on successful people and over analyzing what keeps these athletes, entrepreneurs and leaders up at night. One such person of interest is the journey of George St-Pierre who grew up in my back yard. As a kid George was bullied and his father suggested he take up karate to learn how to defend himself. Fast forward 20 years and the GSP underdog theory is in full effect. When you dig and analyze this underdog position you begin to understand WHY he`s become the legend he is today within the MMA.

George is a mastermind introvert...

GSP is a mastermind at observing, reflecting, studying his opponent and putting together a game plan to execute with his team. It's called making space for solitude to acquire knowledge, insight. #intelligence.

It's true that introverts tend to get a bad rap. They're viewed and sometimes falsely portrayed as withdrawn and awkward in public. Over the years, George has proven repeatedly that you don't need to be bombastic and outspoken to be world champion. There are many upsides to falling on the quiet mastermind introverted side of the personality spectrum.

In the video below GSP's gives us insight on his team's overall game plan. He reflects on what he studied and what keeps him up at night.

Greatness is not reserved for the elite. With discipline, belief and knowledge, we become the best we can be. SET your GOAL, always move forward. ALWAYS challenge yourself. Seek radical improvement for a strong, balanced, high performance body. GSP

In the video below at 1:55 sec Bisping (oponent) gives us (GSP) a glimpse of his weakness and GSP's advantage.

That's the difference between you and me George, I'm a fighter... no disrespect. You're just a very, very good athlete. Bisping

Interesting comment coming from a champion fighter, it says it all when you look back at the fight punch by punch, round by round. In retrospect, the athlete was better prepared which in the end gave GSP the edge. It's all about the little things, the details. The overall technical athletic component was the game changer.

After his victory GSP reflects back on his strategy. At 2:25 sec he talks about the game plan. Studying his opponent`s weaknesses

The Danaher Death Squad’s coach and namesake, John Danaher, said this about his student.

George is one of the very few students who went beyond the teachings of all of his masters. He learned to combine the skills of each one of them...But no 1 person ever taught George to bring all those skills and merged them. That was done by himself John.D

That my friend is the answer to the WHY

In the end GSP showed great respect for his opponent which is once again a common trait among all great athletes. #RESPECT
