GUELPH- August 24th, 2017 -Sgt Douglas Pflug played football at the University of Guelph 1986-1988 before joining the Guelph Police Service in August 1989. Over the past 31 years, he has spoken annually during fall training camp as part of his personal/professional commitment to mentor youth. Doug feels it's extremely important for Gryphon Football Alumni to not only support the team financially but with their personal and professional experience through Gryphon Football Mentorship opportunities. "We all stood on the same field as these young guys and it's extremely important for us to meet with them, share our experiences and be a positive male role model for them on and off the field" he states. Doug is one of many Gryphon Football Alumni that Coach Kevin McNeil welcomes to/or brings to practice to speak with the guys and thereby expand the circle of care the organization provides the players, "The Gryphon Family runs deep and it's extremely important for the players to see the many faces of support they have." Pflug concludes, "Our goal extends far beyond the scoreboard, we want to help these amazing young men be incredible sons, brother, husbands, fathers, community coaches etc all through the vehicle of Univesity of Guelph Gryphon Football."

7 年This is great to see. Former players bringing their life experiences and moral support to encourage young athletes. As a parent of young football players who aspire to continue in the game, I have seen first hand the tremendous impact that positive role models make in player’s life choices. Bravo Sergeant Pflug, the Football family thanks you and all others like you who are sharing experience with our future leaders.
