The Rebirth of a Legend.
The Rebirth of a Legend
The Grumman Goose was first anticipated when a bunch of wealthy Long Island businessmen approached Grumman and asked if he would build an aircraft so that they could commute from Long Island to Manhattan and land on the river. That evening at a cocktail party on the back of an envelope the concept of the Goose G21 was rationalized.
The plane went into production for the delivery of 12 aircraft to business men and no sooner than the onset of WW2 that the US military adopted it into its fleet for search and rescue. Many other governments also followed suit and soon there were almost 500 aircraft in the air.
Today, that legendary aircraft supercharged with twin turbine engines and high tech avionics is going to be flying high soon.
Grumman Aerospace and Dr. Pereira's team have been working diligently to see this bird get its wings. Many closed door discussions are at advanced stages with world leading and major aerostructure and component suppliers engineering the logistics of manufacture and production. The company's new facilities in Wichita, Kansas have already been earmarked for Grumman Aerospace production and assembly of the aircraft.
