GRP vs Carbon Steel Storage Tanks

GRP vs Carbon Steel Storage Tanks

???????????????????????? ??????????????????:

? ?????? (??????????-?????????? ???????????????????? ??????????????) tanks are made of fiberglass reinforcement embedded in a resin matrix.

? Common fibers are E-glass, S-glass or carbon fibers which provide strength.

? Resins are usually polyester, vinyl ester or epoxy.

? Isophthalic and bisphenol-A based resins give corrosion resistance.

? ???????????? ?????????? tanks use metal alloys complying with ASTM A36, A283 or A537 Class 1,2 standards.

? These have less than 0.26% carbon content. The steel provides high tensile strength but is susceptible to corrosion over time.

?????????????????? ?????? ??????????:

? For certification, ?????? tanks must be designed, fabricated and tested as per standards like ASTM D3299, ASME RTP-1 or EN 13121.

? ???????????? ?????????? tanks have to meet ASME Pressure Vessel Code Section VIII Division 1 or API 620/650 standards.

?????????????????????? ????????????????????:

? ?????? tanks are made by filament winding glass fibers impregnated with resin around a mandrel.

? Fibers crisscross at various angles to provide hoop and longitudinal strength.

? Successive layers build up the required thickness.

? Curing under controlled temperature hardens the resin.

? ???????????? ?????????? tanks are fabricated from steel plates that are rolled and cut as per design.

? Plates are welded together using processes like MIG, TIG, submerged arc etc.

?????????????????????? ????????????????????:

? ?????? tanks are corrosion resistant and have 2-3 times longer operational life than steel tanks.

? GRP has better chemical resistance against a wide range of products. ? Permeation is up to 10 times lower than steel.

? ???????????? ?????????? offers greater impact resistance and has higher design flexibility.

? Steel tanks require rigorous maintenance and corrosion prevention systems, but have lower capital costs.

? Repairs are easier compared to GRP.
