Growth through Delivering Unique Value
The Coach and Coordinator Podcast had over 50K listens yesterday and it got me thinking...?
I launched the Coach and Coordinator Podcast in December 2016. Today the podcast has 7.7 million listens, a loyal following and a trajectory of more listens, shares and follows that speeds up the adoption and retention of market specific knowledge.? We live in the “Influencer Economy.”? An economy built on social channels and platforms that shape perception and change how people learn and behave. With that, I wrote the following and now share it with you.??
?In 2014, I met Colby Jubenville, a consultant, professor and former football coach. Colby is different. He sees things that others don’t. He and I quickly formed a bond based around our experiences coaching college football as well as a desire to serve people. At the time he told me I needed to start a podcast. I had no idea what that was. I studied podcasts for two years, and then it clicked for me.? I could build relationships with successful? coaches in a new way, record it, and share their mindset and skillset with the world.?
?In that first year we had 262,000 listens.? In year three we hit a million listens.? The next year two million listens, and now at year six with over seven million all-time listens we are getting a million listens per quarter. We are on track for 4 million listens this year.??
The numbers are just the surface of the story.? The podcast has taken a life of its own resulting in a platform with a loyal audience who, along with our guests, have the opportunity to speed up the adoption and retention of market specific knowledge related to coaching the greatest team sport ever invented – football.?
The feedback and interaction I get is continuous.? Daily, I have coaches texting, messaging, calling asking for connections, further insight or introductions. Coaches call me and ask about people I have interviewed wanting to gain clarity about what kind of fit they would be on a staff.? Coaches call and ask for introductions and insight about a staff, coach or team.? They want to be on the show, share their knowledge and unique perspective, education and experience.? All of this speaks to the trust that has been created and the relationships that have been made.? One of our guests said – “you can only develop people as far as they trust you.”? The more time I spend with coaches, it is evident to me this is foundational to coaching today.??
How we create value for our audience.
I know from my experience, coaching football requires specialized knowledge and skills. Traditionally that? transfer has been done in an informal manner (with what typically is a long learning curve) as finding a mentor is not easy. We now can mentor a generation of coaches as the podcast has evolved into a network of? elite leaders with a track record of success. Each episode unpacks the mindset and skill set that have been tested in a laboratory – their locker room, practice and playing field. It’s shared in a way that is easy to consume. Coaches who have a desire to improve do it in the areas they desire to improve in.? We do it five days a week.??
What is the result based on the value we deliver??
It’s taken time to build the Coach and Coordinator Podcast which is listened to by coaches at all levels. The platform connects more than just sport specific knowledge to coaches who have become loyal listeners, it's helping coaches across the country apply what they are learning to their current approach and game plan creating a better experience for their players, competing at a higher level, while making the industry better too.

I heard a great phrase from twin brother college coaches who joined me on the podcast recently, “Lift while you climb.” Our audience like the simple lessons that they can easily apply to what they do.
