On Growth!

Do not optimise your life for the next big company, instead align it to work with great leaders...

So then, what makes a leader "great"?

A great leader,

  • is someone who is invested in YOUR growth.
  • is someone who helps you identify key areas of impact.
  • is someone who is brutally honest in the feedback they give.
  • is someone who praises in public.
  • is someone who scolds in private.
  • is someone who shields you from external pressures.
  • is someone who understands your human side.
  • is someone who fosters a culture of safety and openness!

Many leaders wish to be all of the above, but few are able to.

I've had the pleasure of working at Atlassian over the past 42 months, we've been through wild phases of growth, handled critical incidents on-call, managed performance issues, delivered critical feedback, partied hard, but most importantly grown together.

No, this is not a farewell note, this is an appreciation post for every manager I've had in my career across all organizations. I am where I am because of the support you've given me. As I stand on the shoulders of giants like you, I'm able to see further than it would ever have been possible for me alone.

Especially at Atlassian where some of the best leaders have helped me transform from an Individual Contributor to an Engineering Manager with a clear focus on helping grow my people over everything else.

Thank You Justin Koke , Ashish Anant Saxena , Ramesh Anantharamaiah , Sonia Parandekar , Dinesh Ajmera and every other leader at Atlassian who continues to shape who I am and helps me grow every day!

Do you have someone you'd like to thank? Comment their names below, and tell them that you're grateful for everything they do for you!

Great stuff sunny, I have had my fair share of good and bad managers (for shorter durations) and the points shared for a great leader above are spot on. awaiting fort the next release.
