Growth Mindset

Sophia Saldana remembers the stress she felt as a middle school student when a teacher wanted to know what her career path should be. Sophia felt like she had too many interests to narrow it down to one career.

Sophia came to work in the Newport WorkSource office as a security officer in April 2021. She had been a housekeeper for 4 years prior to that. Unfortunately or fortunately due to the pandemic she lost her housekeeping job. Because of the effect Covid 19 on the hospitality business on the coast.

While looking through the want ads she noticed a Security Officer position. The criminal justice system had previously peaked her interest and she liked the idea of having regular work hours. Her first and only security guard position had Sophia stationed in the Newport WorkSource office.

?It was during those nine months that Sophia witnessed firsthand how appreciative the job seekers and clients were of the assistance they got from the WorkSource staff. ?Sophia liked seeing the positive effect WorkSource employees had on making a positive difference in the lives of others. As soon as a position came open for a Talent Development position with Equus Workforce Solutions, she applied and started this new position in January 2022.

Sophia’s varied interests have aided her in her career. She has an awesome growth mindset.
