Growth Mindset-Key To Success

Growth Mindset-Key To Success

Hey Folks,

We all know that mindset is everything when it comes to succeeding in life – our mindset is the foundation for how you feel about yourself and your place within the world. It influences how you think, feel, and behave in any given situation. It means that what you believe about yourself impacts your success and failure.

A mindset refers to an established set of attitudes of a person or group concerning culture, values, philosophy, frame of reference, outlook, or disposition.

A healthy mindset is a positive frame of mind that helps you cope with the difficulties in life and recognize and appreciate the good times in life. And mindset is very personal: it guides how you view and react to big-picture issues in our world and the everyday situations around you.

““The mind is everything. What you think, you become”

Gautama Buddha

There are several different types of mindsets, each with distinctive characteristics that factor into temperament and personality. But in this article i will talk about two famous Mindset :-

  1. Fixed Mindset
  2. Growth Mindset

Fixed Mindset:-

A fixed mindset means you believe intelligence, talent, and other qualities are innate and unchangeable. If you’re not good at something, you typically think you will never be good at it.

A fixed mindset, proposed by Stanford professor Carol Dweck in her book Mindset, describes people who see their qualities as fixed traits that cannot change. With a fixed mindset, talent is enough to lead to success and effort to improve these talents isn’t required. Those with a fixed mindset believe they are born with a certain amount of skill and intelligence that can’t be improved upon.

Person with a fixed mindset may avoid challenges and even small obstacles to continue to appear ‘smart’ and to avoid failure. Every situation is evaluated: Will I succeed or fail? Will I look smart or dumb? Will I be accepted or rejected? Will I feel like a winner or a loser?

Those who adopt a fixed mindset have commonly these traits :-

  • Believe intelligence and talent are static
  • Avoid challenges to avoid failure
  • Ignore feedback from others
  • Feel threatened by the success of others
  • Hide flaws so as not to be judged by others
  • Believe putting in effort is worthless
  • View feedback as personal criticism
  • Give up easily

Growth Mindset:-

A growth mindset is the belief that personal qualities and intelligence can be developed over time. People with this mindset view challenges as opportunities to grow and are more likely to persist through difficulties.

A growth mindset, proposed by Stanford professor Carol Dweck in her book Mindset, describes people who believe that their success depends on time and effort. People with a growth mindset feel their skills and intelligence can be improved with effort and persistence. They embrace challenges, persist through obstacles, learn from criticism and seek out inspiration in others’ success.

Person who have a growth mindset believe that their abilities can be developed through hard work and dedication, which can lead to increased motivation and a willingness to take on new challenges.

Those who adopt a growth mindset have commonly these traits :-

  • Embrace lifelong learning
  • Believe intelligence can be improved
  • Put in more effort to learn
  • Believe effort leads to mastery
  • Believe failures are just temporary setbacks
  • View feedback as a source of information
  • Willingly embraces challenges
  • View others’ success as a source of inspiration
  • View feedback as an opportunity to learn

Some steps to cultivate growth mindset :-

  1. Embrace Challenges
  2. Learn from Criticism
  3. Cultivate a Love for Learning
  4. Celebrate Effort and Progress
  5. Shift Your Self-Talk
  6. Surround Yourself With Growth-Minded People
  7. Replace the word “failing” with “learning.”
  8. Learn from the mistakes of others
  9. Be realistic
  10. Own your attitude

Conclusion

Those with a growth mindset tend to be more resilient and willing to take on challenges, but they may also be more prone to overestimating their abilities and taking on too much at once. Those with a fixed mindset may feel more secure in their abilities, but they may also be more likely to hold themselves back from new experiences and opportunities. Ultimately, the key is to find a balance between the two mindsets, embracing growth and learning while also acknowledging one’s natural talents and abilities.
