Boosting Student Success: The Simple Solution to Keep Everyone Engaged

At St. Mary's, students faced a problem – staying interested in projects and not dropping out. Teachers also noticed that students couldn't see how these activities would help them in real life.

To fix this, they came up with a simple solution called the Growth Flywheel. The goal was to help students finish their own applications. First, they solved specific problems and learned about businesses. Then, they made a summary of their achievements, which wasn't just a resume but showed how their journey could impact their future careers. They also dived deep into their chosen topics, asking meaningful questions and using a smarter approach to learning. These three things – solving problems, summarizing achievements, and understanding topics – made learning more interesting and useful for every student.

They used insight books like visual diaries, connecting ideas and imagining projects before creating them. This creative process made learning more exciting.

Teachers used to teach these things separately, but they realized that when students used all three things together, it created something special – the Growth Flywheel. It not only solved the dropout problem but also kept going on its own once started. Now, students were engaged and could see how their activities were relevant to their education and future careers.

Looking at what kept students interested – insight books, understanding topics, and summarizing achievements – is like putting puzzle pieces together. The Growth Flywheel is a simple solution that keeps everyone engaged, makes learning fun, and leads to success.
