This short text is aimed at accountants, but it could be aimed at any service business.
According to research, new accountancy customers don’t just search Google and ring a few people for prices.
1. 80% check out your website - (I am surprised it is only 80%)
2. 63% search for your company online – think reviews
3. 62% ask colleagues, friends, business associates if they know them – (not knowing is okay, at this stage people are looking to know if there is negative news out there)
4. 58% check out their social media activity – you tell a lot from what some people post
5. 55% talk to current or previous clients – especially if they are listed on your website
My takeaway from this:
· Is your website easy to find, easy to use, and does it describe your business specialisation? (Think expert with engineering companies, construction, family businesses, etc)
· Do you have reviews? A Google My Business listing is a must.
· What do your customers think of you? Do they recommend your services? It is easy to find out, just ask them to write a review on your Google My Business listing – if they do, good – if they keep forgetting – there is a problem.
· Is your social media activity in line with your business? No complaints or rants from you online?
· For the last I have at least two clients at any time that will take a call from someone asking what it is like to work with me.
The above are only the first steps, the client still has to find you, call you, and meet you. More on all of this later.
