Growing Trees to Uplift Communities in Guatemala??

We’ve joined forces with Restoration Era , a visionary organization dedicated to nature-based solutions that uplift both communities and the environment. Our mission? To combat deforestation, curb erosion, and address biodiversity loss—all while creating job opportunities for local communities.

Together, we’re embarking on two exciting tree-growing projects in Guatemala:

• Highlands: Restoring a cloud forest.
• Coast: Rejuvenating mangroves.

While our tree-growing initiative aims to make a significant environmental impact, our primary focus is on uplifting people and enhancing their lives. Stories like Jorge’s, a community member involved in the cloud forest restoration project in Quetzaltenango, are truly inspiring.

Here’s Jorge’s story:

Jorge has faced numerous challenges in his life. Growing up during Guatemala’s civil war and lacking formal education, he struggled to find stable work and navigate the complexities of running a business.

For years, Jorge worked as a day laborer. Now, thanks to his role with Restoration ERA, he’s earning a steady paycheck for the first time. He uses his earnings to pay off debts and support his children’s education. Jorge’s dedication to preparing the planting site—by tilling the soil—is vital to the success of our reforestation efforts. His story is echoed by many of his colleagues in the highlands.

In addition to employing nine full-time staff members from the community, over 840 volunteers from nearby areas have rallied to support the reforestation effort. These volunteers include school groups, government officials, churches, and local organizations, all contributing to the restoration of this crucial landscape.

Together, we’re not only restoring forests but also providing transformative opportunities for the people involved????
