About growing tomatoes.

It's a public holiday in Bavaria, so I am finally finding/taking the time to take care of what was supposed to become my garden (on a 2x2m balcony).
I present to you: Tomatoes!
One thing I didn't consider was how much a person could actually learn from somewhat successfully planting tomatoes on a balcony, so here we go:
Top three things I learned from planting tomatoes that may or may not have something to do with work.
Recycling is good (duh!):
You may have noticed, but I'm not the kind of person to keep flower pots around. When it came to planting the seeds, a friend gave me the tip to use egg cartons for the seeds and then put them in a Tupperware container (of which, being a cliche german, I keep around a lot) to basically build your own little greenhouse. Worked like a charm and once again served as a reminder, that recycling ideas (and trash!) is always a valid approach.
Plann(t)ing and improvising don't exclude each other:
When my plants grew bigger, it was time to put them outside. Did I buy big enough containers for all of them to fit? Yes. Were my measurements for the mounting systems I bought wrong? Also yes. Are my flowers currently happily resting on a folding chair? Absolutely.
You see, plans can go wrong, but a good folding chair solves a lot of problems (any WWE fans here?).
Have fun!
Whenever you can, do something to take the edge of things. Most people have enough "real" challenges, so why not every now and then engage in something that is new to you and helps your mind wander off (e.g. shovel dirt in your apartment because you're new to the whole gardening thing). Distractions are, after all, important!
