Growing Through My First Coaching Training

Hello Courageous Leaders,

Today, I share a pivotal moment in my journey: my first foray into coaching training, a blend of discomfort, revelation, and self-discovery.

Experience

Entering the coaching classroom, I was immediately aware of being the only Black leader. Initially, I didn't feel safe. However, as the training progressed, a profound change occured. I began to feel a sense connection I had only shared loved ones. I realized this was 'coaching' – a practice I resonated with deeply but never had a name for. By the end of the 3-day training, I felt I had uncovered my true calling. A purpose. I realized I've always been a coach. And now, I had the language to describe it. I couldn't contain my excitement for what I had experienced and discovered. And I was determined to make coaching a larger part of my life.

Insight

Embrace discomfort. Staying in uneasy situations can lead to immense learning and growth. It's where transformation begins.

Suggestion

1. Remember to breathe. Center yourself with each breath to support you through the discomfort.
2. Use your support system. Sharing my mixed feelings of excitement and unease with my partner was incredibly grounding.
