Just imagine knowing in advance how long an interview process will take, and what different stages it will involve before applying for a job. It's now more common courtesy, as employers increasingly outline the details of their hiring processes in job postings. Not dissimilar to the rising tide of pay transparency, being upfront with job seekers is one of those strategies that serves to help not only grease the wheels of the hiring process but also shows an employer that transparency is highly valued.
Kyle Samuels, CEO of Creative Talent Endeavors, executive search firm: "This is a very candidate-centric approach. It helps the expectations be managed and it allows candidates to research their interviewers proactively.
Recently, for example, CHANI, an astrology app and media company updated their job postings to include a description of their interview process for their director of performance marketing. This would include steps like: reviewing cover letters and resumes, doing phone interviews, and having group interviews with all types of different team members.
According to CHANI's co-founder and CEO, Sonya Passi, the addition came after a suggestion from one previous applicant that they would love transparency about their hiring process. By putting all this information upfront, they also alleviate some of the administrative burden of keeping candidates informed.
That level of transparency is not, however, yet common. As Samuels mentions, interview processes vary-a lot-and employers cannot often promise when they are going to reach certain milestones. Still, giving a framework can help temper much of the frustration that comes with long and intensive hiring processes filled with interviews and take-home assignments.

Transparency has been adopted by Remote, a platform purely for remote roles. The job postings detail what happens throughout the hiring process, from screenings through technical interviews and code exercises, too, usually labeled "async", because it's asynchronous. Such changes, confirms Madeline Grecek, senior manager of people enablement at Remote, have been welcomed by candidates who appreciate clarity.
With the shifting labor market, transparency in the interviewing process enhances the candidate experience and reflects an employer's commitment to transparency.
