Grow your Marketing Career at HiMama

Madeleine Hutchison joined HiMama in July 2020 and has been a standout team member ever since! Maddie has taken on multiple roles throughout her time with HiMama, starting her journey in Customer Success as an Onboarding Specialist and later, a Customer Success Manager. Currently, she’s bringing a voice to many of our dedicated center directors, owners, and educators as a Customer Advocate.

?"Maddie is the ultimate champion of our customers at HiMama, driven by both her previous experience working in Customer Success and her passion for elevating the work of ECEs. On any given week, I can count on Maddie to surface amazing customer success stories for sales and marketing, share meaningful insights with stakeholders across the company, and elevate our collective understanding of the crucial market we serve at HiMama. And that’s just the tip of the iceberg!"
- Jaclyn Travis, Director, Product Marketing

We interviewed Maddie to get a better understanding of what it’s like to be a Customer Advocacy Specialist at HiMama.

Can you tell me a bit about yourself?

I have spent over 2 years at HiMama and have transitioned and grown into a number of different roles. I am also a registered early childhood educator (ECE) and did my Master’s in Education with a focus on children's rights. I am passionate about learning and helping children achieve their full potential, which aligns perfectly with HiMama’s mission. Right now, I’m focused on connecting directly with customers to further strengthen those relationships and foster community.?

What does ‘a week in the life’ look like for you?

Being the first person to take on this role, I had the opportunity to develop a more structured customer advocacy program. The bulk of my work involves interacting with customers, through interviews and other channels, to better understand their lived experiences within the industry. I also host a weekly webinar, where we have over 800 attendees regularly. These webinars are educational sessions that are open to the public, where we engage with different guests and add value back to the community that we have built. Beyond this, you can find me writing case studies and testimonials about the wonderful stories I am exposed to. The feedback and other information I collect through this work helps internal teams identify key ways to improve HiMama’s products and services.?

How would you describe HiMama’s culture?

HiMama makes sure that its customers are at the center of each decision we make; this aligns back to our core values. Everyone at HiMama treats each other with great respect and encourages one another to excel. I have been provided with multiple opportunities and resources by my managers to help me grow into what I am today. Not only are they supportive but also a very fun bunch of people who bring out the best in me.?

How does HiMama create social impact? And what is your contribution to it?

HiMama works hard to make sure that our customers are heard and that they are a driving force of change across the organization. Also, being a BCorp, HiMama takes clear, measurable efforts to make the most positive impact, within the early childhood education community as well as the greater technology space. I believe I add value to this impact by uniting the voices of our community and amplifying them, and creating a true partnership with our customers.??????

What makes marketing unique at HiMama?

On the Marketing team, we make certain that ECEs are at the forefront of every campaign. We use their feedback and stories to guide us, ensuring we are focusing our efforts according to the real needs of our customers. Our strategy has been to develop a dynamic relationship with the community because that is what helps us identify problems and, in return, offer better solutions. Marketing at HiMama is not simply about promoting, but rather a way to empathize and empower.?

How have you professionally grown at HiMama?

I have progressed through 3 jobs at HiMama in over 2 years, which would not have been possible without the support I’ve received. Not only was I provided with a safe space to ask questions and learn, but also given resources tailored specifically to my personal goals. A couple ways I continue to nurture my development is by reading at least one professional book a month and by attending bi-weekly coaching sessions with a member of our senior leadership team. Growth is an ongoing journey and I’m eager to see what lies ahead.??????

What advice would you give to prospective HiMama candidates?

?Joining the HiMama team means you’ll be part of an amazing culture and atmosphere that puts employees first. This is a fast-paced, rewarding environment, filled with plenty of dedicated people who are excited about making an impact and will root for you along the way. We’ve also got a wonderful senior leadership team that encourages everyone to grow and achieve.

What are 3 words you would use to describe HiMama?

Loved hearing how Madeleine created programs for customer advocacy at her role, and how educators are bringing change and inclusion for more educators.
