Grow Your LinkedIn Following with the 10-5-2 Strategy

Are you looking for a way to get more LinkedIn followers for your business or personal profiles? Let me share a strategy that has worked for me and I promise will work for you if you are willing to simply put in a little effort.

THE 10-5-2 STRATEGY

Social media, especially LinkedIn, is a huge part of business these days. Any investment you make into growing your following is definitely worth it in the long run. If the simple concepts of this strategy are followed, you'll add 500-700 followers each year.

The Basics

Start by carving out time each day to be active on LinkedIn. 10 to 15 minutes should be plenty so this does not have to monopolize your day. Scroll through your news feed and look for posts, articles, etc. that are relevant to your business. Don't just start clicking or your following will grow with people that will not help you professionally.

The Simple Strategy

LIKE TEN POSTS Not much strategy is needed for this step. Just try to like posts related to your industry or business or posts from industry influencers. An occasional like to someone you do not know or a post that just catches your attention is fine, but make sure the majority of your likes are related to your business or profession.

SHARE FIVE POSTS This step requires you to be a little more picky and strategic. People and companies absolutely love when you share their content, so this is where you'll get noticed. Make it count! Share posts from prospects, clients or industry influencers whenever possible. You'll start to notice that they will frequently invite you to connect. This is the first step to increasing that follower number.

INVITE TWO PEOPLE TO CONNECT This step alone will increase your followers by approximately 500 per year if done regularly.

PRO-TIP: When someone accepts your invite to connect, follow up with a brief thank you to let them know you noticed. NEVER hit them with a sales pitch out of the gates. Be respectful of their kindness and willingness to connect.         

It is important to note that the 10-5-2 strategy does not limit you to those numbers. It is simply a minimum recommendation for growing your online network. Feel free to go above and beyond.
