Grow Your Career With Hilton Grand Vacations

Hilton Grand Vacations was named one of “America’s Greatest Workplaces for Diversity ” by Newsweek. This honor recognizes HGV’s efforts to encourage meaningful career development and cultivate an inclusive and diverse workplace for Team Members. One way Hilton Grand Vacations fosters a welcoming workplace is through employee-led Team Member Resource Groups (TMRGs).

Dontrel B., manager of culture and engagement, is co-chair of the Black Employee Action Team (BEAT) TMRG. He shares the story of his career journeys, professional development and the importance of TMRGs.

My degree is in electrical engineering, which is outside of what people typically think of as hospitality. However, my job in engineering required a lot of travel, and I needed a career with more flexibility for my family.

So I dove into sales and eventually started at Hilton Grand Vacations. I started on the phones as an outbound sales advisor, then moved up to call transfer team lead, supervisor and eventually a sales manager.

One thing I love about HGV is that we're selling a product I care about — vacations help people maintain balance in their lives and enjoy quality time with loved ones. This passion keeps me going.

The beauty of the culture at Hilton Grand Vacations is that it’s what you make of it. I wanted to progress my career, so I focused on finding ways to engage, such as volunteering for different projects or researching courses available through Grow U . I created a kind of “brand” within the company based on my work, and the opportunities started coming.

Co-chairing the TMRG has also been a great experience. The different initiatives BEAT has worked on led me to my current role as manager of culture and engagement. While everyone’s path differs, TMRGs offer invaluable insight and networking opportunities I wouldn’t have otherwise.

HGV has so many opportunities; you just need to take advantage of them and do your best in your current role.

Awareness of various cultures is very important and leads to strong allyship. One aspect of belonging is being an accepted member of a group and feeling part of something bigger. The goal of TMRGs is to create a sense of belonging for all Team Members — evident through recognitions like Newsweek’s “America’s Greatest Workplaces for Diversity .”

BEAT consists of not just Black Team Members but people of all colors. It’s a beautiful picture. BEAT has supported Team Members by hosting a mental health awareness workshop, spotlighting the careers of Black HGV managers and leaders and highlighting historically Black colleges and university (HBCU) graduates.

My career so far is also an example of the BEAT TMRG in action. My active involvement as a co-chair exposed my work ethic throughout Hilton Grand Vacations. I gained connections with amazing Team Members in the United States and abroad, including executive sponsors at the VP level and the People, Inclusion and Culture (PIC) team.

Those new connections played a major role in my journey from a call transfer sales manager to manager of culture and engagement, my dream job. I get to enact the same positive culture I built with sales teams for over ten years throughout HGV.

"What is your advice for young job-seekers and students looking at a career in hospitality?" overlaid image of Lake Tahoe in California

Come into the hospitality industry with an open mind. Many people picture front desk agents and salespeople in call centers when they think of hospitality. There are so many other facets to it. There’s resort management and operations. But HGV also offers positions in human resources, internal and external communications, accounting and so much more. There’s a place for college students and young people to join the company.

If you’re in school, give hospitality a chance. My career has been life-changing.

Learn about the industry and the benefits of vacation, and consider applying for a summer internship. Check out two of our past interns' experiences at HGV.
