You may have a career goal and even a career plan.
But it’s one thing to make a career development plan, but it’s a completely different ball game to follow through.
This is where MOST people fail.
They get excited and motivated, but they never follow through. They have all the good intentions, but then life happens. There is something urgent at work, they have a sick kid, the car needs to go into service,?or they have to travel for work….
And the first thing that goes out the window is their career goals. The first thing that gets pushed?aside because it is not important enough in their own growth.
It’s kind of ironic when you think about it. The only way to get unstuck and level up is to invest in yourself, but people don’t invest in themselves because they are stuck.
We are going to break this cycle. I’m going to give you a tool that will help you make your career a priority and help you grow faster with little effort on your end.
?
Career growth is a choice you have to make
Building a successful career is a lot like going to the gym.
You can’t do it once and expect a six-pack. You need to put in the reps and build your success muscles. You need to become a career athlete.
Now, I know what you are thinking. Maya, I’m so busy I actually don’t have time to do a career workout.
And to that I say BS.
How you spend your time is a choice. When things are important enough we all make time. We make sacrifices because we believe the upside will be worth it.
You can spend less time on social media.
You can skip Netflix one day every week.
You can see your friends just once a week.
The question is are you willing to prioritize career growth over immediate gratification?
?
The simple process that kept me growing for more than a decade
The simple process that will help you grow your career FAST is having a career growth routine.?
You are going to embed working on your career into your day-to-day and you are going to do it in a way that is simple and makes it easy to follow through.
You are going to use my 30/3/30 framework to make it happen.
It’s very simple: you need to dedicate 30 min, 3 times per week, for 30 days.

You need to put 3 x30 min blocks on your calendar and stick with them for at least 30 days so you can start forming a habit.
The 30/3/30 system
Here is what you are going to do with those 3 x 30 min blocks:
The first 30 min should be spent on planning. I do this on Sundays but you can choose a day and time that works for you. I look at my promotion strategy and choose a task to work on. Sometimes it means learning, sometimes it means networking, and sometimes it means executing. I chose one thing to work on and I plug it into my calendar. That’s the 2nd 30 minutes slot.
The first one is for planning, the 2nd is for executing.
The last 30 min should be spent on learning. You can listen to a podcast, watch YouTube read a book, or choose your own adventure - but make sure you are learning something new every week.
I usually do that while I’m cooking, cleaning, or working out to make the most of my time.
That’s it.
That is how you grow your career. By consistently prioritizing your career and taking action. That is how I grew from an IC to a VP, that is how I 10x my salary and made high six figures, by being intentional and taking small steps, every week towards my success.
It is simple, but it is effective.
When you invest as little as 3x30 min sessions each week to grow your career you will activate the compounding effect. If you grow by 5% every week, by the end of a year you would be 37x better than where you started.
Let me repeat that: 37x times better. Most people do not grow this much in a lifetime.
?
I don’t know anyone who has a career growth routine…
I didn’t either. Most people have no idea this is what they need to do in order to grow. I’m willing to bet your friends, your family, and even your colleagues don’t talk about their career routines. Your boss doesn’t do it, people on social media don’t talk about it so most people don’t even know it’s something they should do. It’s not on their radar.
But now, you have a competitive advantage. You know what it takes to become a career athlete and build your success muscle, and when you follow through the things that seemed out of reach, that seemed impossible will become possible and even inevitable.
The question is are you willing to make a small investment right now, to see massive growth in the next year, 5 years, and decade?
?
I believe in you and I’m rooting for you.

1 年I think a lot of people rely on motivation so when it goes down, they cannot keep up. When you have systems in place and a strong purpose then it's different. You do the work regardless of how motivated you're on a given day. Maya
