Grow on LinkedIn for Free – Edition 2 ??

Good Morning, you lovely lot!

How’s everyone doing this morning? I can't believe it—there are already 895 of you here after just two weeks. A massive THANK YOU for being part of this, I will make it worth your while. ??

Let’s dive right in! I’ve got some exciting updates and a solid tip to help you grow your business using LinkedIn's free features.

First! What’s Going on with LinkedIn Connections? ??

Did you notice people talking about losing hundreds of connections and followers last night? ??

Honestly, I had no clue until I saw the posts! Apparently, some people are really keeping a close eye on their numbers (no judgment if that’s you!). But DON’T PANIC. Here’s what I’ve gathered:

  1. LinkedIn’s doing a cleanup – They might be removing fake profiles and inactive accounts, which is actually great news. Cleaner connections mean better engagement for you!
  2. It could just be a glitch – Some users got told by support to do the ol’ "turn it off and on again" trick, and their numbers came back. This feels more likely. I checked my own followers—still climbing! ??

But here’s a question: Do these numbers actually matter? ??

To be honest, I don’t obsess over my follower count, but they do impact your reach. If your content is hitting the right people (hello, Ideal Client Profiles!), those numbers can mean more business. So yeah, your connections matter—but only if they’re the right connections!

This whole thing got me thinking though: what if LinkedIn suddenly crashed and I lost all of you? ?? That would be the worst! So let’s make sure we stay connected outside of LinkedIn ??. Join my mailing list for more tips, updates, and advice—you’ll even get early access to everything I do and share!

And as a little thank you, sign up tonight and I’ll send you a free workshop on using LinkedIn for free to grow. I ran this last week for over 25 people and the feedback has blown me away! Dan Hughes who just joined my community (more about that another day) was there and with my tips he has seen a 22,000% increase in impressions (and no, that’s not BS! Go look at his profile, he posted about it!). ??

LinkedIn's Updated Terms of Service – What You Should Know ??

LinkedIn is rolling out some updates starting November 20, 2024, and here’s what’s worth knowing:

  1. Content Recommendations & Moderation: LinkedIn is tweaking how they recommend and moderate content. For you, this means more relevant posts in your feed—less noise and more of what actually matters to you based on your interests and connections (so make sure you interact with the stuff you like!). Plus, they’re cracking down on low-quality and spammy content, which should keep your feed more valuable and less cluttered. WIN
  2. Generative AI Features: Okay, let me be honest here—I personally don’t recommend using LinkedIn’s AI tools for content creation, and here’s why. LinkedIn’s whole policy is about being authentic, right? So why introduce AI-generated content into the mix? It feels like a contradiction to me. Plus, nothing beats content that comes from you, your expertise, and your voice. Authenticity wins every time.

Oh, and for those outside the EU, UK, and Switzerland, LinkedIn might use your data to train these AI tools. But don’t worry—you can opt out in your settings. If you're in the UK, EU, or Switzerland, LinkedIn won’t use your data for this at all, so no need to worry about it there.

If you want to adjust your settings or get more details, LinkedIn’s got FAQs and a post explaining all the updates. Definitely worth a look!

Want to Grow on LinkedIn? Stop Treating Your Profile Like a CV! ??

I see it all the time—people using LinkedIn profiles like a CV. LinkedIn is so much more than that! Think of your profile as a digital shopfront for you or your business. It’s not just a list of jobs; it’s a chance to show people who you are and how you can help them.

Here’s a quick fix to make sure your profile is working for you:

  • Headline: Use it to be specific about who you help and how. Skip the generic stuff—like "CEO" or "Sales Manager." Instead, say something like: “I help ....to....by ......”
  • About Section: Tell your story! Why should someone work with you? What sets you apart? Think of it like your elevator pitch—just with a bit more room to show off.

If your profile still looks like a job application, it’s time to give it a makeover. Trust me, this is where the magic happens! ?

Right, I’ll stop now because I could talk LinkedIn all day long! ??

Thanks again for being here—it means a lot!
