Grow as a Leader Through Connection
Leaders are always learning. And they stay up to date with current affairs. You need to know what's going on locally, nationally and globally and how it will impact you, your work and your family. But it also helps you network more effectively and have more meaningful conversations with others. If you are knowledgeable and can talk about more than just the weather people will find you interesting!
The Financial Review had a few good pieces today, titled "Trailblazers". Each week they do a bit on leadership which I enjoy. And those headlines are quite catchy! Here's a few headlines and comments from today's "special report"...
- Leaders will need to drive culture change - getting transformation right is about embracing and empowering people.
- Investing in employees reaps rewards - it costs a lot of money for an organisation to bring new staff in.
- Entrepreneurial leaders need curiosity, creativity and resilience
- Directors have a duty as custodians of business - the risk to reward ratio is more opaque in an era of constant change
- Smart incumbents shift quickly
- Managers must take care to look after their own health - being too driven is fraught with risk of burn-out
Great topics! A good read...
These topics are the reason I created the Unique Leaders Network. A network for women in leadership who don't quite fit the usual mould. Most of us are from regional areas and find it difficult to connect with other like-minded leaders. Usually, because we're too busy to get to the nearest capital city for that 2-hour event, which for us means a whole day out!
That's why I have planned a Retreat in September to the Blue Mountains. Time to get away from the pace of our busy lives and think about how we grow our own leadership skills and style...
The topics above are what we will cover in the content of our leadership sessions.
We work hard all year round, and often without much of a break. I confess I haven't had more than a day or two off this year. And the reason this retreat is in September and not July was because I couldn't find the time!
But I realised just how important it was for me to set a date and make it happen!
If the idea of 3 days in the Blue Mountains, focussing on developing your leadership capacity appeals to you, then join us! Wednesday 13 to Friday 15 September at the Hydro Majestic, with practical lessons from real leaders.
