Grow with Kloeckner: Meet Anthony Dawkins, Kloeckner’s Planning and Processing Manager at Thurrock

Anthony Dawkins joined Kloeckner Metals UK as a warehouse operative back in 2004. Since then, he has come a long way. Discover how Anthony took advantage of the resources and opportunities at Kloeckner to learn and grow during his time at the company.?

I began at Kloeckner Metals UK as a warehouse operative in 2004. I had no prior experience with the steel industry, but quickly established that there were many opportunities to progress within the company. I developed extensive product knowledge while learning all the different types of plant and equipment that was available at London. I became multi-skilled, which helped me fulfil all my duties as a warehouse operative.

In 2008, I was given opportunity to progress to a warehouse IOSH trained supervisor and took on new responsibilities to support the management team.

After a few years settling into my new position, I was given another opportunity in 2010, to become the trainer instructor in all disciplines required, to aid the learning of new employees and develop existing ones.

Thanks to the vast knowledge I’d gained through different training opportunities at Kloeckner – such as in LEAN NVQ Level 2, St John’s first aid, drug and alcohol testing I was again promoted to a shift manager’s role in 2018. During that time the company was setting up their new site at Thurrock and I was nominated to become part of the Thurrock project lead team. I was very fortunate to be able to work on this hugely important company project as I was overseeing a vast array of contractors on a daily basis and with the help of a fantastic team around me - got to develop the new Thurrock site to what it is today.

I am now the planning and processing manager at the state-of-the-art Thurrock site where I will continue to develop and grow with support from my colleagues. I am looking forward to continuing to learn and gain new skills at any opportunity, as I genuinely love what I do.?
