Grow with Crowe #5

Grow with Crowe #5

In my ‘Grow with Crowe’ series, I will be speaking to some of our new starters in the Thames Valley office about their experience so far, why Crowe works for them and how they’ve been able to grow in their new roles.

This time, I’m quizzing Jagsher Dhaliwal – a March 2023 addition to our Corporate Audit team.

Tell us a little bit about yourself…

I was born in India and moved to the UK when I was 10 years old. I studied at the University of York (BA) and Lancaster (MSc) before I started my training contract in Audit and ACA. I really enjoy staying up to date with current affairs regarding economics, financial markets, politics etc. As well as cooking food, travelling, training and playing chess. Fun fact: I am currently rated 1800 on chess.com , which makes above 88-90% of all rated players.

What have been the highlights so far?

I had the opportunity and experience of travelling to Germany to audit one of Crowe’s clients, which really helped my professional development. In addition, I have had the opportunity to work on a great verity of clients in multiple industries and sectors, such as Oxford University colleges, large listed subsidiaries and more. Last but not least, I have an incredible support structure from colleagues and management at Crowe, who have really helped in helping me to progress with my ACA exams.

What made Crowe stand out when you were looking for a new role?

I wanted to look for a firm that had a large client base, with strong brand recognition and reputation. In addition, Crowe offered a comprehensive 6-week ‘Engage’ training program split throughout the training contract. This was also a motivating factor and I have not come across any other accounting practice offering such a well-structured training program. Moreover, I had the ability to carry on with my ACA studies with Crowe, which is fully funded. Lastly, the office in Reading was well suited, it is vibrant and situated in an ideal location - for travel, for shopping, and for getting good lunches!

Meet Jag. He's a superstar audit trainee and superstar chess player.

How does working at Crowe compare to your last role? What are the key differences and why do you feel these suit you?

I am really enjoying my time at Crowe so far. I was given a lot of responsibility from the moment I started, which is understandable since I started with a year and half of experience in audit. This made me feel trusted which allowed me to take ownership of my work and showcase my skills. I am really impressed with the individual learning plan Crowe set out for the trainees – it helps ensure that you are on track with your professional studies. I am also happy to get a supportive manager. There are also ample opportunities for social activities, training and team updates.

What would you say to anyone else thinking about coming to work for Crowe?

I would highly recommend it. It’s a place where you have a really good work-life balance, a broad range of clients to keep things interesting, well-structured training path for your professional qualifications, positive/vibrant office environment, ample training and support for development.
