Grow with Crowe #2

In my ‘Grow with Crowe’ series, I will be speaking to some of our new starters in the Thames Valley office about their experience so far, why Crowe works for them and how they’ve been able to grow in their new roles.

This time, it’s Helen in the hotseat, who joined our Business Solutions team in February 2023.

Tell us a little bit about yourself…

My early career path was very creative - I qualified as a hairdresser and also ran a 'paint your own' pottery studio with my parents. A move to Hampshire from South Wales 25 years ago opened up a career in accountancy, starting in purchase ledger then moving into small accountancy practices.

I’ve always liked maths, it was my favourite subject at school so I thought a career in accounts would be a good move for me.

I have three teenage boys so they take a lot of my time outside of work. However, when I get a free evening I love to catch up with friends or spend a quiet evening reading.

What have been the highlights so far?

I have some really great work colleagues who are very supportive. Also, since I’ve joined Crowe I’ve qualified so this has been a particular highlight in my career.

What made Crowe stand out when you were looking for a new role?

I could clearly see that Crowe was growing and the roles that were opening up were exactly the kind of roles I wanted to get into - they were varied which meant I had the opportunity to grow my knowledge base and try my hand at different skills.

How does working at Crowe compare to your last role? What are the key differences and why do you feel these suit you?

My last firm was a small, rural accountancy practice with a handful of employees. Crowe’s size is the biggest change for me, from the size of the workforce, the size and location of the offices and the size of the client base. It’s a good change though, it was time for me to build on the skills that I already had and challenge myself.

What would you say to anyone else thinking about coming to work for Crowe?

Do it! Crowe has a very diverse team and are very supportive of furthering your career though study and promotion -?it’s a great place to work.
