Grow 1%: Revenue Rides Along

Pick one of these newsletters every day, spend 2 minutes reading and 8 minutes implementing the lesson (1% of your waking day) and your socials will get 1% better.

Don't buy growth hacking classes. Save your money. Do this instead.

Joy first, revenue later.

Social media is entertainment.

Repeat that until it sinks in.

Yes, social media posts can be informative, but if someone just wants an answer to a question they would ask ChatGPT.

Even if the goal of your profile is to increase sales of your product, you're not going to get there by making blunt commercials.

Entertainment is the driver, and revenue rides along.

So does that mean that you shouldn't try to monetize your profiles as soon as it's viable?

Heck no!

You've worked hard to build your following and you should benefit from that growth.

But as soon as revenue takes the driver's seat, you'll start losing that audience.

Recently I've been diving deep into shoppable video.

Once your TikTok FYP knows you're looking for shoppable videos, you'll see a lot of them.

And most videos put sales in the driver's seat.

"Hey guys! I just found this great new product that blah blah blah..."

The algorithm may love them for adding shoppable elements, but their audience isn't going to be excited about it.

The most successful shoppable video creators are able to create amazing pieces of entertainment that feature incredible products being used in a way that celebrate their value.

Sales ride along.

So whether you manage the Twitter account of a fast food chain or you're a comedian trying to crack the creative on your first brand deal, the best thing you can do for the future of your brand is to nail your value proposition for your fans.

And on social media, you'll never go wrong with delivering bursts of joy.

My mission for you: look at all of your revenue streams through your social posts and think whether revenue is driving or riding along.

If it's driving, try to find a way to make the revenue funnel impactful while putting it in a more entertaining package.

That took 2 minutes. You have 8 minutes left. Stay entertaining and grow 1% right now!

“Bursts of joy” <—- it took me longer than I should admit (3 years?) to realize how much my own energy is a factor in the success of a video, and not just in views but especially in getting people to take action. I don’t shoot if I don’t have it because it’s a waste of production time

1. You’re an entertainer. Be en-ter-tain-ingggg 2. Don’t monkey see, monkey do. That’s commodity, no unique-value-add. 3. Be yourself! There’s only ONE of you, it’s automatically unique. they can go nowhere else and get that. The rest handles itself. (These tips work in all industries. “Wanna make widgets? Then MAKE WIDGETS. Don’t worry about the money, make good widgets, the money just arrives”. Anyway, money is mostly useless. How much pizza can one person eat per day? Beyond trading money for pizza, money has little use)

Agree on being entertaining - but you have to be true to yourself. YouTube's top biggest growing channels for 2023 are primarily Mr. Beast inspired clones. They will likely monetize well but I wonder about the longevity. And yeah, Brian, I love his images too!
