Groverwhelmed Sunday: Congrats Ankur for an amazing year 7 at TinkerLabs

It gets lonely at times, leading a company. You don't have?people on the top to brainstorm, validate choices and make decisions. While revenues and profits are great markers, it's just not enough at times and the cup remains somewhat empty.. till something comes along and helps fill it!

I have made it a part of my role to email Tinkerers on their anniversary. Every year, on the date they joined, I send each a mail in whhich I write about their contributions and the impact they have made to the team both professionally and personally over the course of the last 12 months.?

Last week I completed my 7th year with TinkerLabs and an unexpected email came my way - an email from my team congratulating me for a great year at work. The subject line, the structure and the wording of this email mirrored my exact style. They say, imitation?is the best form of flattery - this went beyond flattery, i was truly Groverwhelmed :)

I am taking the liberty of sharing this positive email with all of you and also say a big thank you to the team - who find ways to randomly fill my cup!?

Over the past year, you have not only steered the team and the business through a pandemic but have done it with a smile.

The year has been emotionally challenging for all of us at some or the other instance and you have led with empathy, incorporating pauses where necessary. Even in the new world, we have maintained the values of our team culture because of your leadership- upholding team experience, prioritising learning, taking chances, experimenting and being open to failure and being agile where needed.

Over the past year you have:

  • been both catalyst and facilitator at our remote workshops?
  • taken a leap to our first consulting project in the African continent (now a recurring client)
  • supported and put faith in 2 in-house projects (TinkerStudio coming soon?)
  • pushed for the social innovation website (which we now flaunt everywhere)
  • ritualised standups & unwinds (can’t get over musical unwind)
  • had all the difficult clients on speed-dial (& often stepped in to save the day)
  • have remained consistent with Friday emails & Groverwhelmed Sundays (both of which help us know you better as a person, especially those of us who joined in the remote world) We look forward to you becoming LinkedIn Top Voice soon :)

Well done Ankur! Being a well respected team leader speaks a lot about - how you are. We tend to mistake ourselves with a few grains of success to “ who we are “. But in reality, it is how we are, under pleasure and pain, under stress and frustration, that makes all the difference. So nice to hear your colleagues appreciating your efforts, on keeping the team glowing (sometimes in these dark times) and always looking forward to their next challenge!
