The holiday season provides opportunities for students to be grateful for what they have and to give back to their community when able.?
Canned food and clothing drives in our schools collected essential winter items for those in need. Glendening Elementary’s Student Council paired their canned food drive with Giving Tuesday. Asbury Elementary’s Student Council collected canned food donations, and Dunloe Elementary held a canned food and sock drive. The giving continued in our middle schools. Middle School North collected an impressive?1700 cans and boxes of food for families in need.
Winter clothing items were collected at Middle School South. Principal Cody Bryson says the best part of his job is watching students become leaders and grow into young adults.?
“One of the most profound ways to grow your character and instill lifetime values is to give back to our community,†says Principal Bryson. “I cannot be more proud of my students for their efforts to give back to their community and to fill needs within their learning space. It truly is great to be a Cruiser!â€
Families in need this season can find support from the Groveport Madison community. Feed the Kids Columbus sent 140 bags of food home with students at Groveport Elementary over Thanksgiving break. Life Transformation Church provided a Christmas gift for every student at Dunloe Elementary.

Bonzy, in partnership with Operation Warm, provided winter coats for every student at Asbury Elementary this year. Volunteers from T. Marzetti Company spent a full day at the school helping students pick out their new coats.
Groveport Madison Human Needs is a community-based nonprofit that assists District residents in crisis.??
Come December, they work hard to provide Christmas to families experiencing hardship through their Adopt-a-Family program. In its 16th year, Adopt-a-Family received help from the Groveport Madison High School boys basketball team. Students and coaches provided assistance setting up for the upcoming distribution event.
District staff at the District Service Center know this event well. Every year, they come together and adopt one of these families for Christmas. It provides an opportunity to give back directly to the families they serve daily.
Charitable efforts like these build a strong connection between our students and our community and teach lifelong lessons about caring for and doing good for others outside the classroom.
